George Wu – Fashion Designer

 
One of the rising stars in Australian fashion, George Wu is a ‘virtual resident’ of QUT Creative Enterprise Australia.
 
Making the most of the development seminars and mentoring, George Wu holds high praise for QUT Creative Enterprise Australia.
 
“This program is the best thing that has happened to Brisbane's creative scene. In a business sense, the mentoring has assisted us structure our business effectively and development seminars have provided direction and raised accountability around our financial practices,” said Mr Wu.
 
George Wu debuted his label to much acclaim and was a finalist in the 2005
Mercedes-Benz, Brisbane Start Up Program. Since then, George has enjoyed immense success internationally and is currently stocked in boutiques across New York and Los Angeles as well as in Sydney’s own ‘The Corner Shop’.
 
 
 

Wayne Denning – Carbon Media Events

 
Carbon Media Events Pty Ltd is a new media agency and content creator based as a resident at QUT Creative Enterprise Australia.  
 
Creator and Managing Director Wayne Denning became the first official resident of the program in October 2007.  
 
“We are a privately owned and operated Aboriginal business that makes and distributes media content in multiple forms such as on-air, online and via mobile phone – the only one of its kind in Queensland,” Mr Denning says.
 
Some key projects undertaken by Carbon Media Events and have gained national recognition and publicity include ‘Black Tracks’ – a real-time travel documentary streamed from New York and ‘I belong’ – a new television series questioning Indigenous identity and what it means to belong.
 
“The creation of industry networks, provided through the QUT Creative Enterprise Australia residency program, has been fundamental in developing strategic business networks,” he said.
 

 

Sally McKenzie – Coalface Communications

 
Sally McKenzie is the Director of Coalface Communications Pty Ltd and a resident of QUT Creative Enterprise Australia.
 
Since coming on board, Ms McKenzie has made several award-winning short films and her 52-minute documentary ‘actingclassof1977.com’ recently screened on the ABC.
 
Her experience combines the disciplines of acting, writing and directing to her advantage.
 
As an actor she has worked in film, TV and for theatre companies Australia wide, as a writer, she published plays including ‘Scattered Lives’ and ‘i dot luv dot u’, and as a theatre director she has directed one show per year during the past 20 years.

Ms McKenzie has found the facilities provided by QUT Creative Enterprise Australia invaluable. “Sometimes you need to be physically located at the bigger picture to see the bigger picture. Having an office to go to rather than attempt to run business from home has proved a huge asset,” she said.
